At least 14 civilians and a soldier were killed in an anti-insurgency operation and violence over the weekend in Mon district of Nagaland, as per police.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the Centre has given an ex-gratia amount of Rs 11 lakh each and the state government has given Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those deceased. The CM said that he has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and that he is taking the matter very seriously. 

He also requested  the Centre to remove the Armed Forces Act from the state. 

“We have given financial assistance to affected families. We are asking the Central government to remove AFSPA from Nagaland. This law has blackened the image of our country,” he told reporters.

AFSPA confers special powers on the armed forces in areas deemed as disturbed.

The EDC was established under the SANKALP project of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. He also planted a tree sapling at the premise of ITI Kohima. At Sipongsang village, the team also conducted free health camp at newly inaugurated sub-centre, where a total number of 60 OPDs were registered during the camp.

Resource persons from IIFPT spoke on the scope and importance of food processing focusing on NER, technical and demonstration session of value addition of fruits, vegetables and spices, bakery products.

It may be noted that the department envisages to encourage prospective entrepreneurs to take up more food processing activities in the state while capacitating and developing skills among trainees in food processing and provide quality exposure.

Altogether, 20 local entrepreneurs/exporters from Nagaland attended the training.

According to DIPR report, DC directed concerned departments to identify session sites by following the technical requirements for 2nd phase of vaccination to be conducted on February 9.

He also urged concerned departments on finalising session sites by tying up with CMO office and district immunisation officer by February 5 and to ensure uploading names of beneficiaries at the earliest on or before February 7.

Besides the vaccination team, DC also directed the police, home guards, prisons and other concern departments to ensure that security, law and order and other related issues are taken care of.

In the meeting, district immunisation officer Dimapur, Dr. Rebecca informed that till date, 1116 health workers were vaccinated with no reports of adverse events.

On the wrong information about COVID vaccination doing the rounds, DIO advised District Task Force members to the people in clearing the misconceptions and highlighted on the successful eradication of diseases like polio, small pox etc through mass vaccination. 

Dr. Rebecca further encouraged the members to provide the right information to the community in their own respected platform.
