12 killed at Vaishno Devi Temple in J&K

In Jammu and Kashmir, 12 devotees were killed in a stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhavan in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident took place at around 2:45 p.m. The number of injured is being reported as 13.

According to the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh, the devotees pushed each other over the argument over something, after which there was a stampede. The Yatra to the holy Temple has been temporarily stopped after that incident. The stampede took place outside the sanctorum of a temple located on the Trikuta hills in Reasi district. Immediately after the report, the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to other hospitals including Mata Vaishno Devi Narayan Superspeciality Hospital. The condition of them is critical.

PM Narendra Modi said, “My condolences to the families of the victims. I have spoken to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha, Udhampur MP Dr Jitendra Singh and Union Minister Nityananda Rai about the situation.”

The PMO tweeted that the families of each person who lost their lives in the stampede will be given Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF and Rs 50,000 to the injured. The cave temple is located at an altitude of 5,200 feet in Reasi district.
