16 Bangladeshi nationals arrested at Agartala railway station

Sixteen Bangladeshi nationals, including 13 men and 3 women, were apprehended at Agartala Railway Station. Among the detainees, three are suspected of involvement in illegal activities. The group was taken into custody, and charges have been filed at the Agartala Government Railway Police Station. The arrested individuals are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mijanur Rahaman (26), Safikul Islam (30), Md. Alamin Ali (23), Md. Milan (38), Sahabul (30), Sariful Shek (30), Kabir Shek (34), Lija Khatun (26), Tania Khan (24), Ethi Shek (39), Brindaban Mandal (21), Abdul Hakim (25), Md. Idul (27), Md. Abdur Rahaman (20), Md. Ayub Ali (30), and Md. Jiarul (20).

This incident follows an earlier attempt by 12-15 Bangladeshi nationals to cross the border into Tripura near BOP Paharmura in Khowai District on August 12. The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted the infiltration by firing a warning shot, forcing the group to retreat back into Bangladesh.

Amid rising concerns over border security, the Central government has urged Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh to expedite fencing along the India-Myanmar border. In a letter to the chief secretaries of these states and the Assam Rifles director general, the Centre stressed the need to complete the remaining sections of the border fence, especially the 243-kilometer stretch in Manipur and the 480-kilometer unfenced area in Arunachal Pradesh.
