Authorities in Tripura have arrested 16 Bangladeshi nationals in two separate operations over the past 48 hours for allegedly entering India illegally and attempting to travel to Delhi for work opportunities. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway, in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Border Security Force (BSF), conducted the arrests at key railway stations. In the first operation on Thursday, four individuals, including a woman, were detained at Dharmanagar railway station during a routine check of the Tripura Sundari Express. The detainees admitted to crossing the Sonamura border in Sepahijala district with the help of a cross-border intermediary.
On Friday, a second group of 12 individuals, including minors, was apprehended at Teliamura railway station in Khowai district. Investigations revealed they had entered India through the Silachari border in Gomati district. Authorities recovered essential items, including mobile phones, from the suspects. All 16 individuals were handed over to the BSF for further legal proceedings.
The arrests underscore ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illegal immigration and secure the sensitive India-Bangladesh border in the northeastern region.
