3 cases registered against Drivers Mahasangha

The police on Tuesday registered three cases against motorists who entered the city and indulged in violence despite assurances not to.

Deputy Commissioner of Police US Dash said CCTV footage of the protests in various parts of the city is being examined and action will be taken against those who indulged in violence during the drivers’ agitation in the city on Monday.

The drivers’ union assured us that their members would be out of town and a delegation would be in to discuss their demands. However, they entered the city and resorted to blocking roads and violence in some pockets, the DCP said.

He said that the police had reserved 25 platoons (one platoon consisting of 30 personnel) for the protest and the Mahasangha had recruited some volunteers for the peaceful protest. But the situation changed because its leaders could not control their members who resorted to violence.
