30 entrepreneurship development centres launched at Skill Development Conclave 2024: Empowering the Northeast

In a pivotal development for the northeastern region, Hon’ble Minister Jayant Chaudhary unveiled 30 Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) during the Northeast Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Conclave 2024 at IIM Shillong. This initiative by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) aims to drive regional cooperation and empower local youth through skill development and entrepreneurship under the “Act First for Northeast” campaign.

Minister Chaudhary emphasized the region’s potential, stating, “Our North-Eastern States have experienced a resurgence, reclaiming their position of prominence.” The conclave highlighted the need for a robust framework tailored to the region’s unique challenges, advocating for ITI upgradation and improved instructor selection processes.

This initiative will see the establishment of four Incubation Centers (ICs) and the implementation of various programs, including 90 entrepreneurship awareness and development programs, targeting the creation of 900 startups. With over 13.40 lakh candidates trained since 2015 and ₹857.84 crore allocated for skill development, the Skill India Mission continues to make strides in the Northeast.
