The flood situation in Assam has turned extremely critical. On July 21, 21 people lost their lives in different parts of the state due to floods. With this, the total death toll in the current wave of floods has risen to 31.
According to the latest data from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 872 villages across 16 districts of the state have been submerged by floodwaters and around 5.65 lakh people have been affected.
Upper Assam districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat have been the worst hit.
Of the 21 people who died on July 21:
• 13 in Sivasagar
• 5 in Charaideo
• 2 in Golaghat
• 1 in Jorhat
Approximately 24,210.35 hectares of agricultural land is under water, causing massive losses to farmers.
The Dikhou and Disang rivers are flowing above the danger level. In addition, the Brahmaputra and Dhansiri rivers are also flowing above the danger mark.
More than 1,228 people have taken shelter in 71 relief camps. Besides this, over 1 lakh people have received essential supplies from 202 relief distribution centers.
The Army is also assisting in rescue operations.
Due to the floods, 33 roads, 1 bridge and 6 embankments have been damaged.
