6 die of suffocation after mosquito coil triggers fire in Delhi

Six members of a family died of suffocation at their Delhi home after inhaling poisonous gas overnight after mosquito repellent spilled on the mattress, police said. The family lived in the Shastri Park area of ​​North East Delhi. Three fire engines reached the house after the fire department received information about the fire at around 8.52 am.

North-East District DCP Joy Tirki said the Shastri Park police received a call on Friday morning that a house on Mazarwala Road near Machhi Market was on fire. Police reached the spot and found that the injured were taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital for treatment.

“It is come to know that a burning mosquito coil fell on a mattress sometime during the night. The toxic fumes caused inmates to lose consciousness and later die of suffocation,” Turki said in a statement.

A total of nine people were involved in the incident, two of whom are being treated for burns and one has been released after receiving first aid. Among the dead are four men, a woman and a child.
