A Big Step for Confidence’: Lovlina Borgohain Praises Delhi Police Safety Initiative

After achieving a historic gold medal at the recently concluded 2026 Asian Games, star Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain on Monday joined women police personnel of the Delhi Police for a foot patrol in the Rajouri Garden market area as part of a women’s safety awareness campaign. Lovlina participated in this initiative to ensure that women can move around freely, without fear, and with confidence.

Praising the Delhi Police’s initiative, Lovlina told news agencies, “Working towards women’s safety and conducting patrols like this is a very important initiative by the Delhi Police. I feel wonderful to be a part of this campaign. Winning a medal for the country is one thing, but the success our women achieved in the recently concluded Asian Games is truly special. It has inspired many women and helped in removing fear from our minds and boosting confidence.”

She further added, “When we work for women’s safety not just from one angle, but from all directions, only then will it have a positive impact on the future. Women want to move freely and confidently, so this initiative is indeed a big step.” Regarding the responsibility of female athletes, Lovlina stated that contributing towards the welfare of the country and women’s empowerment is a collective responsibility of every female athlete.

Notably, on October 2, her 29th birthday, Lovlina secured the gold medal by defeating China’s Li Qian 5-0 in the final of the women’s 75kg category. With this, Lovlina made history as the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the women’s 75kg category at the Asian Games.
