AAPSU Election Halted After Itanagar Administration Withdraws Permission

The Itanagar district administration has revoked permission for the All–Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) election and conference due to increasing law and order concerns following violent clashes between rival candidates. The Deputy Commissioner of Itanagar formally withdrew the previous approval, initially granted through Office Order No. DC/ICC/17012/12/2026-JUD on February 5, 2026, which allowed elections from February 17 to 23, 2026, contingent on certain conditions. The original order stipulated that the district administration could suspend or cancel the election depending on the law-and-order situation. Recent incidents of violence have prompted officials to act, particularly in light of the upcoming Sixth Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh from March 6 to March 12, 2026. The administration highlighted the importance of maintaining a stable security environment for this budget session and announced the immediate withdrawal of the previously granted permission due to the prevailing circumstances.
