AASU takes to streets again over Zubeen Garg death case

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will once again take to the streets demanding justice for beloved artiste Zubeen Garg. The organization has decided to take out a massive candlelight procession from Doomdooma town playground in Tinsukia district today, Thursday, at 5 pm. The district unit of the student body has organized this protest march following the call of the central committee.

There has been a strong reaction after the Gauhati High Court recently granted bail to two of the seven accused in the case related to the artiste’s mysterious death. Accused singer Amritprava Mahanta got bail on October 9 and suspended police officer and Zubeen Garg’s cousin brother Sandipan Garg got bail on October 16. However, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police will challenge this bail order of the High Court in the Supreme Court, as clarified on October 18 by Special DGP of CID Munna Prasad Gupta.

It may be noted that regular hearing of the case is continuing in a special fast-track court in Assam. On May 26, the court had formally framed charges against seven accused, including murder charges against four. On the other hand, in its inquiry report published on March 25, 2026, the Coroner’s Court in Singapore had stated that no evidence of any criminal act was found and declared the death as accidental drowning. This protest march will be taken out today in Doomdooma demanding accountability of all parties in the legal process and delivery of proper justice.
