About 25% of Government Schools in Bengal Do Not Have a Head Master

Of the total 9,990 authority faculties in West Bengal, about 2,130 faculties do not have a head teacher, according to the School Education Department. This means, 25 percent of faculties in the country do not have a head teacher. This is probably due to not hiring head teachers on a long-term basis. As per rules a head teacher can be appointed for seven years.

According to sources in the faculty training department, the state authorities have to start a new recruitment process for the appointment of head teachers. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) had earlier requested the headmasters to list the full number of vacant seats. The complete list of various types of vacancies has now been sent to the School Service Commission (SSC).
News 18 Hindi noted that officials of the school education department refused to divulge that head teachers could only fill the growing vacancies for seven years.

Rules for appointment of new Headmasters will be changed. This means, the guidelines by which head teachers are appointed for so long will be changed. They will now be assigned department-wise. A suggestion will be sent to the Faculty Career Fee Kingdom Faculty Schooling Department to amend the law on this matter.

It is expected that the notification for the appointment of headmasters will be issued after the proposal to change the regulations is approved. The notification for the recruitment of head teachers should be released within the next month.

West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Bose has already held several evaluation conferences in this regard. In the last few months, there have been several allegations against the School Service Commission, including corruption. Several political events are known as out recruitment process. So the state government has to appoint a new head teacher. The commission did not respond to further requests for comment.
