The controversy that was going on before the release, after watching ‘Adipurush’, got heated again. The Hindu Sena group filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the Ramayana-based film directed by Om Raut. In that petition, it has been demanded to stop the exhibition of this film in public. According to Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta, ‘Adipurush’ has defaced the image of Hindu mythological characters Rama, Ravana, Sita, and Hanuman. So immediately some ‘offensive’ scenes should be removed from the film.
The petition further states, “The manner in which religious characters are depicted in this film is inappropriate. The complete opposite of what was in Valmiki’s Ramayana. It has hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Let the matter be looked into and appropriate action taken.”
Even before the release, the BJP leaders had complained of distortion of information after seeing glimpses of ‘Adipurush’. Although ‘Adipurush’ starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan passed the censor board with a laugh. The film was released in various theaters across the country on June 16. Since then, this film has been the focus of critics and cynics. The appearance of the characters had already been questioned. From Saif’s outfit not suiting the role of Ravana to Prabhas’s appearance not like Rama, but like Karna – all these things came up in the discussion. But after the release of the film, filmmaker Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar made a new comment. According to him, “Om Raut wants to build the Marvel world with ‘Adipurush’.”
He did not see ‘Adipurush’, but he heard ‘Tapori’ style dialogues being used there. Hanuman is heard to say, “Tel tere bap ka, jalegi tere bap ki”. Laughing, Prem said that he had also seen his father directing the popular television serial ‘Ramayan’. Although there is artistic freedom, the information has never been distorted.
Prem claims, everything changes with time. Om Raut did exactly what he thought. Rather, he wanted to highlight the aspect of freedom of the artist on Om’s behalf. Prem reminded, Om did not name ‘Ramayan’, the name of the film is different. Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ was broadcast from 1987 to ’88 with huge success. In Prem’s words, “Father said, no one will be able to make such a Ramayana in the next 85 years.”
