AFSPA complete withdrawal approved for Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as earlier promised to remove Armed Force Special Power Act (AFSPA) from the state, Assam completely. During a meeting, the Chief Minister has confirmed its complete removal.

According to the sources, the confirmation came after Assam CM met Union Home Minister at Delhi and presented the state’s peaceful areas in which AFSPA is imposed. Sarma said that by October this year the force will be removed completely.

Assam has already removed AFSPA, 70 percent from the states, now the force is imposed in only eight districts, these includes Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts.
