Agartala secures ₹116 crore for smart waste management under CITIIS 2.0

Agartala has secured a ₹116 crore project under the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate & Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0) initiative to enhance its waste management system. The project aims to integrate smart solutions for a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.

The agreement was finalized on March 3 during the Asia-Pacific RRR Regional Conference in Jaipur, in the presence of Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, senior ministry officials, the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), and the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-U). Representing Tripura, Dr. Shailesh, Municipal Commissioner and CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited, attended the signing alongside key state officials.

Agartala was among 18 cities selected nationwide through a competitive evaluation process by experts from the European Union and India. The two-year project will focus on an Integrated Solid Waste Management system, aiming to position Agartala among India’s cleanest cities. Additionally, a tripartite agreement was signed between the Urban Development Directorate, NIUA, and MoHUA, securing a ₹5 crore grant for climate-resilient urban planning and the establishment of an Urban Climate Observatory. This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of CITIIS 2.0, promoting sustainable urban development and innovative solutions to improve the quality of life in selected cities across India.
