AI Push in Tripura as CM Announces New State Policy

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the state’s plan to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, marking a pioneering initiative in India. The policy will be developed in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission and NITI Aayog, with the aim of enhancing governance and improving technology-driven public service delivery. The implementation of AI-based solutions is expected in Agartala to address various civic challenges, including traffic congestion, parking difficulties, the stability of electricity supply, provision of potable water, flood management, and the handling of solid and liquid waste. Additionally, the state is partnering with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to establish an AI Center of Excellence to foster research, innovation, and skill development.

To further stimulate the digital economy and advance the IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) sectors, the Tripura government intends to create a Tripura IT and Data Economic Zone. This initiative was highlighted during the launch of T-NEST (Tripura: Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Start-ups), the first State Innovation Mission in the country, in the presence of Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh. The Tripura State Innovation Mission, supported by the Atal Innovation Mission, aims to cultivate a robust ecosystem that fosters talent development, encourages the adoption of leading-edge technologies, and transforms innovative ideas into significant economic ventures.
