Ajinkya Rahane Set to Play for Amsterdam Flames in Maiden ETPL Season

Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane has signed with Amsterdam Flames as the franchise’s marquee player for the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL). The announcement was made on Friday, a little over a week after Rahane brought the curtains down on his international and Indian Premier League (IPL) career.

The ETPL will mark Rahane’s first stint in an overseas T20 franchise league. Despite earning global recognition for his performances in Test cricket, the right-handed batter has also enjoyed a successful career in the T20 format.

Across 308 T20 matches, Rahane has amassed 7,968 runs at an average of 30.29 and a strike rate of 126.77. His T20 record includes 56 half-centuries and two centuries, reflecting his experience in domestic and franchise cricket.

Reacting to the move, Rahane said cricket has shaped his life and career, and he believes experienced players should contribute to the game’s future. He described Europe as an emerging destination for cricket and said the region has significant potential for the sport’s growth.

Rahane also praised Amsterdam Flames for its long-term vision, saying the franchise aims to create a meaningful impact both on and off the field. He expressed enthusiasm about working with the team management to build a competitive side while helping promote cricket across Europe and encouraging young talent in the region.

With Rahane’s vast experience and leadership, Amsterdam Flames will hope to make a strong start in the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League.
