Al-Qaeda recruited, indoctrinated several people from remote areas of state

The Assam Police has accessed some crucial information about Al-Qaeda’s plans in the wake of the arrest of two Imams who were arrested from Goalpara district on Thursday.

A senior Assam Police official said that the six Bangladeshi terrorists who entered Assam a few years ago targeted people in Char areas (Bali or small sandy islands) and some remote areas populated by Muslim communities.

According to reports, Bangladeshi terrorists linked to AQIS/ABT recruited many people in the state and indoctrinated many more. Assam police arrested one terrorist out of six Bangladeshi terrorists involved with AQIS/ABT and five others are still absconding and police are doing their best to nab them.

Earlier, Goalpara District Police arrested two imams associated with Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Lower Assam district and they were identified as Imam Abdus Subhan of Tinkuniya Shantipur Mosque under Mornai police station. Imam Jalaluddin Sheikh of Tilapara Natun Mosque under Matia Police Station of Goalpara District. Two of the six Bangladeshi terrorists were staying in the Char area of ​​Goalpara district for the last 2-3 years.
