AM/NS India targets 75% revenue from value-added steel, expands premium portfolio

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has announced plans to significantly expand its value-added steel portfolio, aiming to generate nearly 75% of its revenue from value-added products as domestic demand for premium coated steel rises across appliance and industrial manufacturing sectors. The company introduced two new branded offerings—AM/NS Vibrance, a premium colour-coated steel, and AM/NS Optima, a True Zero-Spangle galvanised steel—designed to meet the growing requirements of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for improved surface precision, durability, and aesthetics.

The move is intended to reduce dependence on imported coated steel while supporting the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. India’s coated steel demand, currently estimated at 11.1 million tonnes, is projected to grow at an 8–10% CAGR, with appliance-sector consumption rising nearly 10% annually amid rapid urbanisation and premiumisation trends.

In Kolkata, the region’s expanding consumer-durables manufacturing ecosystem is witnessing increasing demand for premium coated steel used in appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air-conditioning units. Rising production capacities and improved sourcing of domestically manufactured value-added steel are expected to reduce import reliance and support regional manufacturers’ competitiveness. AM/NS India, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, currently operates with a crude steel capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum and continues to strengthen its value-added steel capabilities to support India’s long-term manufacturing growth.
