Amit Shah to end flood situation in Assam

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the Assam government to come up with a long-term plan to protect the northeastern state from floods so that further development can take place.

“Wetlands need to be revitalized to increase water holding capacity and they can also act as reservoirs during floods,” said Amit Shah.

Three to four waves ravage Assam almost every year. According to a state government website, the average annual loss due to disasters is Rs 200 crore.
