Amit Shah Unveils National Cooperation Policy

Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah unveiled the National Cooperation Policy (NCP)-2025 in New Delhi on Thursday, calling it a historic move towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar Se Samriddhi’. He described the policy as visionary, realistic, and result-driven.

Shah highlighted that the policy focuses on uplifting India’s 1.4 billion citizens, especially rural populations, farmers, women, Dalits, and tribals. The vision is to build a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047 through cooperative growth. The mission is to support the establishment of professional, transparent, tech-enabled, and self-sustaining cooperative units, ensuring at least one in every village.

Shah stressed that only the cooperative sector can drive inclusive economic development by pooling small contributions from individuals to build large-scale enterprises. Six strategic pillars have been laid out: strengthening the base, enhancing vibrancy, future readiness, broader inclusivity, sectoral expansion, and youth involvement.

The government aims to triple the cooperative sector’s contribution to GDP by 2034 and increase the number of cooperative societies by 30%. A 40-member committee led by Suresh Prabhu developed the policy after extensive consultations with stakeholders, receiving over 750 suggestions and holding 17 meetings.
