More than a month after a massive manhunt for him, Waris Punjab De leader Amritpal Singh, 30, was arrested on Sunday morning outside a gurdwara in Rode village in Punjab’s Moga district.
The road is the ancestral village of slain Sikh militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwal, after whom Amritpal styles himself. It was in Moga district that Amritpal evaded arrest on March 18, when a crackdown on him and his organization began.
Amritpal’s arrest came days after his wife, a British national, Kirandeep Kaur was prevented from boarding a flight to Birmingham at Amritsar airport on April 20. Police said he was nabbed after cordoning off the village based on intelligence.
