An international seminar on Sustainable Technologies for River Erosion Alleviation and Management

An international seminar on Sustainable Technologies for River Erosion Alleviation and Management (STREAM-2022) is being organised by Brahmaputra Board (Under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt of India) under the chairmanship of Shri Rajiv Yadav, IAS (R) and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (Department of Civil Engineering) from December 14 – 16, 2022 at Guwahati and Kaziranga.

The conference will be held for three days. The inauguration was held on December 14, which was followed by two technical sessions. Day two of the conference will have technical sessions followed by a Panel Discussion on “problem faced and success story”. Day three will start with a field visit to some erosion-affected areas on the way to Kaziranga, where the Panel Discussion on “flood, erosion management and impacts on socioeconomic aspects” will be conducted. The technical session will be focused on five themes, the first two themes were covered on day one, and the rest on day two. There will be keynote sessions at the conference, and each technical session will have one invited lecture. STREAM-2022 will be dealing with various themes including Bioengineering for Controlling River Bank Erosion, Modelling, Simulation and Flood Risk Management, Ecological Management Practices (EMPs) for Catchment Management, Early Warning System, Climate change issues and Disaster Preparedness and Methods, Materials and policy issues in flood and Erosion.

The first technical session of day one was chaired by Prof T V Bharat, and Prof Chandan Ghosh, the theme of the session being ‘Bioengineering for Controlling River Bank Erosion’. The second session which ran the theme of Ecological Management Practices (EMPs) for Catchment Management was chaired by Prof Arup Kumar Sarma, and Shri P.M. Scott. A total of 24 papers were presentedby eminent personalities of various institutions and other field experts on day one for both the technical sessions which was followed by a cultural program showcasing the Bihu dance and performances from various tribes of Assam.
