Anil Kapoor’s Judaai turns 25; Actor says he at first said no to the film: Intention was to do it for family

The 1997 hit film, Judaai, starring actors Anil Kapoor, Srivedi and Urmila Matondkar, obtained significant reward when it launched on February 28. Despite having an unconventional storyline, the place a money-minded wife (Sridevi) consents to have her husband (Kapoor) marry some other girl (Matondkar) in alternate for money, the movie won the hearts of the audience. Kapoor tells us that he used to be originally reluctant to sign the movie.

“I stored on saying no to the movie as I ought to now not connect with my character. I had a lot of stress from household and the family production organisation as we were going thru tough times financially after the debacle of Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja,” he tells us.

It was solely after he watched Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan starrer When a Man Loves a Woman that he acquired convinced about Judaai. “I am satisfied I said yes, as the intention was to do it for the family,” says the actor, who feels it is “so surreal” that the movie has finished 25 years of release. “It was surely a pleasure working with two quite talented women Sridevi and Urmila. The working fashion used to be very distinct returned then and had its very own charm,” he adds.

While he was convinced about the film, didn’t people dissuade him from taking up such unconventional stories? The actor responds, “ Parinda (1989), Eeshwar (1989), 1942: A Love Story (1994), Mr India (1987), Virasat (1997), Pukar (2000), AK vs AK and now Thar- I usually strive now not to do run of the mill films. And I strongly experience that’s one of the motives of my longevity.”

In particular, what he still remembers is one anecdote from the shoot of the music Haan Mujhe Pyaar Hua. “all I had to do used to be do away with my shades and put it in my jacket and look at Urmila. Little did I know, the jacket I was once carrying did not have any pockets and for the duration of the shot I used to be clueless, looking for a region to rest my sunglasses. The total crew on the set burst into laughter and that shot made it to the remaining cut. Looking returned at these days brings so lots joy,” laughs Kapoor.
