APWWS concerned about increasing incidents of violence against women

The growing incidence of violence against women in Arunachal Pradesh has been strongly denounced by the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Association. The organization called on all parties involved to cooperate in order to protect women’s and children’s rights, safety, and dignity. The m**der of Ganga Biswakarma, commonly known as Tayum Yana, in Kakoi on November 24 was condemned by the APWWS in a n*ws release. Susan Tayum, the wife of the mother of three young children, is accused of k*lling her.

On November 30, after hearing about the event, a crew from APWWS went to the Kimin police station in the Papum Pare area to speak with the officer-in-charge and obtain an update on the investigation. Later, the team visited Kakoi, the scene of the tragedy, to speak with the victim’s family with the help of a paralegal volunteer from Kimin. Visibly upset, the victim’s mother emerged from her tiny tent and joined the crew to talk about her experience. According to the announcement, she described how her family has been employed in Arunachal’s paddy fields for many years, sharing half of the profits. Ganga Biswakarma, her daughter, was a dedicated worker who provided for her husband and three small children. “I haven’t slept or eaten properly, thinking about how my daughter was killed like a dog,” the distraught mother stated through tears. I want my late daughter and her kids to get justice. I beg you all to make sure he doesn’t get out of jail.
