Artist attacked in Tripura for drawing ex-CM Manik Sarkar’s portraits

Satyajit Pal, a young artist, was reportedly attacked by miscreants allegedly linked to the BJP at Kalyanpur in Tripura on Friday for drawing portraits of former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. Pal has been drawing portraits and paintings of prominent personalities, including leaders, ministers, and VVIPs from different political parties for the past many years, and regularly uploads them on social media for sale and public viewing. However, after he recently uploaded a portrait of former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on social media, Pal was verbally abused by one Jayanta Bhattacharjee, who claimed to be a local BJP leader. The situation escalated further when Jayanta Bhattacharjee, along with a few others, physically attacked him. Some local residents intervened and rescued the injured artist. After the incident, Pal narrated his ordeal through his social media accounts, bringing the matter to public notice. He has appealed to the authorities for the immediate arrest of the accused, Jayanta Bhattacharjee.
