Arunachal balances growth with ecological concerns

The Arunachal Pradesh State Board for Wildlife has granted clearance to three major projects, setting the stage for enhanced connectivity, infrastructure, and cultural development in the state. These proposals, now advancing to the National Board for Wildlife for final consideration, aim to foster economic growth, improve accessibility, and enrich cultural activities, all while addressing ecological concerns. One of the key projects approved is the construction of the NH-913 highway. This new route will connect NH-215 at New Kharsang, near the Assam-Arunachal border, to the Miao-Gandhigram-Vijaynagar stretch.

The highway is expected to significantly improve connectivity for remote communities, stimulate local economic growth, and strengthen border security. The second project involves building a jeepable bridge in the Seijosa-Pakke Tiger Reserve area, utilizing 0.75 hectares of forest land in Pakke Kessang District. This bridge aims to enhance infrastructure in the region, facilitating transportation while supporting conservation efforts by enabling better monitoring within the reserve.

The third approved project is the construction of the Arun Rang Manch Auditorium-Cum-Theater in Itanagar, behind the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Hall. Spanning 0.1092 hectares, this cultural facility is set to become a center for artistic expression, community engagement, and performance events, contributing to Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural landscape.
