Arunachal Pradesh minister Balo Raja has questioned recent remarks attributed to ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapur regarding ongoing face-offs with Chinese forces along the Arunachal Pradesh frontier, asserting that India remains a strong and capable nation.
Speaking to reporters in Itanagar on Tuesday, Raja said statements from senior security officials should not create an impression that India is in a weak position.
“Why make such statements when you are a Director General? Why project yourself as weak? India is very strong,” Raja said.
Drawing a comparison with the recently discussed spy thriller Dhurandhar, the minister highlighted India’s growing intelligence and security capabilities.
“You must have seen the film Dhurandhar. Watch it, and you will understand how much India’s intelligence capabilities have advanced,” he said.
Raja, who holds the urban affairs, land management and civil aviation portfolios in the Arunachal Pradesh government, made the remarks amid an emerging political debate over the border situation with China.
The controversy follows comments reportedly made by ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapur during an event in Alwar, Rajasthan, on October 22. Addressing personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Kapur is reported to have said that face-offs with Chinese forces were continuing at several points along the border in Arunachal Pradesh.
During the event, the ITBP chief praised the force’s newly raised Shaurya commando teams for their role in managing such confrontations. He also emphasized the need to modernise weapons, equipment and operational capabilities, particularly in response to evolving security challenges such as drone warfare.
The remarks have since triggered political reactions, with opposition leaders seeking clarification from the Central government regarding the current border situation and the circumstances surrounding the reported confrontations.
