Arunachal Pradesh is drafting a new film policy to encourage regional filmmakers

Information and Public Relations (IPR) Minister Nyato Dukam declared during Wednesday’s assembly session that the state government will implement a new film policy in a major step to improve the Arunachal Pradesh film industry. Following BJP MLA Tai Nikio’s concern about the predicament of local filmmakers, this action was taken. Minister Dukam declared that the creation of an interim committee tasked with creating a thorough film policy had been approved by the state cabinet.

Important stakeholders will be consulted by the committee in order to create a well-rounded plan. Two renowned filmmakers, the director, the deputy director (film), and the IPR secretary currently make up the drafting committee. They are putting in a lot of effort to finish the policy by the end of the next fiscal year. Dukam stressed that the administration is actively soliciting feedback from the Rakap-based Film and Television Institute and other pertinent stakeholders in order to support the growth of the state’s film industry.

MLA Nikio voiced his worries that the lack of a formal policy has impeded the development of the film sector. He recommended establishing a State Film Production Board or corporation to support revenue-driven productions and provide essential support to regional producers. In response, Minister Dukam gave the assembly his word that the next policy would incorporate feedback from all parties involved in order to create a solid framework that supports and sustains the Arunachal Pradesh film industry.
