Arunachal’s Pipsorang gains road access after decades of isolation

Pipsorang, a remote circle near the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kra-Daadi district, has finally been connected by road, marking a historic milestone nearly eight decades after India gained independence. The achievement was celebrated during a visit by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, and State Urban Development Minister Balo Raja. The 55-kilometer Tali-Pipsorang road, built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), has provided much-needed connectivity to Pipsorang, which was recently designated as an SDO headquarters. Situated in the Tali Assembly Constituency, the area remained inaccessible by road until 2022.

Speaking at the event, CM Khandu commended local MLA Jikke Tako, the Rural Works Department (RWD), and the people of Tali for their efforts in achieving this significant milestone. He urged officials to expedite the completion of the remaining 30% of the project, assuring that the road’s kutcha (temporary) phase would soon be upgraded. “This road has brought unprecedented ease of connectivity to the people of Pipsorang and surrounding villages. The remaining work will be completed within a month,” Khandu promised, highlighting the state government’s dedication to bridging connectivity gaps.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s broader commitment to improving road infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh. With approximately 1,300 villages still unconnected, Khandu reiterated his pledge to prioritize rural road construction under schemes like PMGSY and the Vibrant Village Programme. During his visit, Khandu announced ₹44.50 crore worth of new development projects for Pipsorang. These include infrastructure for the SDO office and roads linking other unconnected villages. He also inaugurated the Boa Sango to Neomi road and a circuit house at Tali, while laying foundation stones for multiple road projects.
