Assam becomes the fifth most literate state

Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi congratulated the people of the state and also his government for emerging as the fifth most literate state in the country with 85.9 percent literacy rate.
In a statement Prof. Mukhi said, “ It gives me immense pleasure to learn that with a literacy rate of 85.9 percent, Assam holds the fifth position in the country, according to the report on education released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) survey. I heartily congratulate and appreciate the efforts of the people of the state and my Government for taking keen interest in education. I believe, with more efforts, dedication and commitment we can reach the top.”
It may be mentioned that as per 2011 census Assam with 72.2% literacy rate was in the 28th position.
