Today, Assam is celebrating the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings tweeted, “Happy Lachit Divas. This Lachit Day is special as we are celebrating the 400th birth anniversary of the great Lachit Borphukan. He is the epitome of incomparable bravery. He put the welfare of the people above all else and was a just and visionary leader.”
Lachit Borphukan was a brave warrior who fought against the Mughals and is often remembered for his leadership in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.
For his bravery, he was able to recapture Guwahati and successfully defended the Mughals during the Battle of Saraighat. Interestingly, he led an army that was unprepared for battle.
