Tripura Police have arrested three individuals, including two women, in connection with the public assault of delivery executive Prasenjit Sarkar, who subsequently died by suicide. The arrests took place in Assam’s Sribhumi district, with the accused identified as Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee—a schoolteacher—and Sourav Bhattacharjee. Two additional suspects, Meghadeep Bhattacharjee and Piu Dhar, remain at large as search operations continue.
The assault occurred on December 14, purportedly due to a delivery dispute. The incident involved three women and two men, who were alleged to have attacked Sarkar in public while capturing the event on video and distributing it on social media, leading to serious public humiliation and psychological distress for him. The victim’s family reported that the event significantly impacted Sarkar’s dignity and mental state, prompting him to take his own life that same day.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has confirmed that an in-depth investigation is underway, promising that justice will be pursued swiftly. The incident has sparked widespread protests in the state, with various political entities and social organizations calling for urgent and severe repercussions for those involved in the attack.
