Assam floods: Man rushes through neck-deep water to greet Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma with ‘gamusa’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma visited the flood-hit Barak Valley where a resident braved the floodwaters and greeted him with a ‘Gamusa’.

The Chief Minister additionally visited the flood-affected areas and heard the grievances of the people in Silchar.

The flood situation in Assam’s Morigaon district is gradually improving as the flood water has started receding through the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

At least four more people, including two children, died in floods in Assam in the previous 24 hours, taking the death toll to 121 on Saturday. One person each died from Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang and Golaghat districts.

Although the overall flood situation in Assam improved on Saturday, more than 25.10 lakh people in 2,894 villages in 27 districts of the state – Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Dima, Viswanath Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, , Cachar, Chirang, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Kamrup Metropolitan, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Dakshin Salmara, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Tamulpur and Udalguri – still affected by floods.
