A panel discussion on synergising sports and education was held at the PD Hall, Gauhati University on the sidelines of the 4th Khelo India University Games, Ashtalakshmi, with a focus on creating awareness among universities in Assam to make the most of government initiatives to promote sports and sportspersons. The discussion was moderated by Mr Kausar J Hilaly, Secretary, Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam, and was joined by a team of eminent panelists that included Mr Alok Tripathi, Joint Secretary, Kreeda Bharati Assam, sports journalists Mr Subodh Malla Barua and Ms Prarthana Hazarika, Ms Shubhangini Singh Verma, Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering, IIT Guwahati and Mr Aviti Katare, Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Guwahati.
Students from various universities, including Cotton University, Gauhati University and a few other reputed institutions from across the state attended the discussion, which mainly centred around how the universities in the state can benefit from the various initiatives taken by the state government, and make full use of the opportunities in the field of sports.
During the panel discussion, the panelists highlighted the areas needed to be worked on in the coming days to synergise education with sports.As far as the 4th edition of the Khelo India University Games, Ashtalakshmi is concerned, the Dibrugarh University with a contingent of six members, is the sole representation from the home state.The Manipur University, with 19 members, has witnessed the biggest participation from the NorthEast region.
