Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma and Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K Sangma decided to begin work on resolving inter-state boundary disputes in six cases over which there are differences on Sunday .
An agreement was signed earlier this year between the two northeastern neighbors to settle issues at six similar sites.
“We have decided to start remedial work on the remaining six disputed sites. On the Meghalaya side, these areas are located in three districts. Three Regional Committees (RCs) headed by each Cabinet Minister will be formed by both the states to take it forward,” Mr. Sarma said.
The six areas taken up for final settlement in the first phase include Tarabari (4.69 sq km), Gijang (13.53 sq km), Hahim (3.51 sq km), Boklapara (1.57 sq km), Khanapara-Pilangkata (2.29 sq km). ) and Ratatchera (11.20 sq km).
