On Wednesday, Assam’s new Governor Shrimant Shankardeva took oath of office and secrecy before Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta of Gauhati High Court at Kalakshetra.
Gulab Chand Kataria is the 31st Governor of Assam, succeeding Jagadish Mukhi, who resigned on Sunday after completing his term. The Governor bade farewell to the former Governor of Assam at his private Raj Bhavan.
Gulab Chand Kataria was a senior BJP leader who was the Home Minister of Rajasthan in the Vasundhara Raje government. Before being appointed as the Governor of Assam, he was the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
Kataria and his wife arrived here, Guwahati on Tuesday, welcomed by state ministers, government officials and Raj Bhavan officials.
