The Assam government has begun preliminary work on the ambitious ₹498-crore Kamakhya Corridor project with the removal of shops and commercial establishments along the main approach road to the Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hill. The ongoing eviction drive marks the first phase of the project, which is being implemented under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE). The project aims to improve infrastructure around the temple and provide a better pilgrimage experience at one of India's most revered Shakti Peethas.
