Assam Police held 1,800 people for child marriage

Today early morning crackdown for child marriage started in the state, Assam and will continue for next three to four days. Assam Police covered many reports regarding the issue and along with it many got arrested, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told.

According to the report, so far 4, 004 cases were registered and linked to it 1,800 people got arrested, on Friday.

On January 25, State Cabinet decided to take action against child marriage in the state. Since then the Assam Police registered many cases less than a fortnight.

The maximum number of arrests so far was 136 in Dhubri where 370 cases were registered, followed by 110 in Barpeta and 100 in Nagaon.

Girls married below the age of 14 will be booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and those who marry girls aged 14-18 will be booked under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. Year age group.

Chief Minister has also announced that, according to the law and order the marriages below the age will be declared illegal.

Investigation for the crime is still on; clear reports will be shared later.
