Assam Rifles DG Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera Inspects Border Fencing at Moreh, Chongjang

Top security officials conducted separate reviews of the security situation and operational preparedness in Manipur this week, with a focus on maintaining peace, strengthening coordination and enhancing border management along the India-Myanmar frontier.

On October 27, CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh visited Imphal and reviewed the operational readiness of the force in the state. According to the CRPF, Singh received a guard of honour at the Group Centre in Imphal before chairing a high-level meeting with senior officers and ground commanders.

During the review, he directed officers to strengthen security measures and ensure peace and stability across their respective areas of responsibility.

The CRPF chief later met Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera and jointly reviewed the prevailing security situation in Manipur. Senior officers from both forces attended the meeting, which focused on improving inter-force coordination, assessing emerging security challenges and enhancing joint operational preparedness.

Officials said the discussions also emphasised coordinated efforts to maintain public order and reinforce stability across the conflict-affected state.

Meanwhile, on October 28, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera visited Moreh and Chongjang in Tengnoupal district to review the progress of border fencing and assess the security situation along the India-Myanmar border.

During the visit, the Assam Rifles chief inspected key border crossing points and interacted with local residents to understand ground-level concerns and security challenges.

He stressed the importance of effective surveillance, stronger operational readiness and efficient border management to secure the strategically significant frontier region.

Manipur shares a 398-kilometre international border with Myanmar, making border security and the prevention of illegal cross-border movement major concerns for authorities.

Earlier, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam had stated that fencing work covering 55 kilometres of the international border has already been completed.

The visits by the heads of the CRPF and Assam Rifles come amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen coordination, improve border infrastructure and enhance security measures in Manipur.
