The NSCN-K (Yung Aung) faction has claimed responsibility for the Tuesday’s attack on 21 Assam Rifles personnel near Nampong in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday morning, which claimed the life of an AR Havildar besides leaving four others injured.
The NSCN/GPRN (YA), in a statement, said its cadres carried out the attack jointly with the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) at around 6.30 am near Nampong Nallah under Nampong Circle, close to the India-Myanmar border.
The outfit claimed to have recovered an AK-series assault rifle following the attack. It asserted that the attack delivered a severe blow to the enemy forces present in the area.
Officials said the Assam Rifles patrol was conducting routine operations in an area where work on border fencing is underway when it came under fire.
The deceased has been identified as Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, 42. Four other personnel sustained injuries in the attack.
Security forces have launched search and area-domination operations in the area to track down the attackers and secure the border stretch.
