Assam Rifles seize drugs and contraband worth Rs 1.64 crore in Mizoram

The Assam Rifles have recovered drugs and contraband worth Rs 1.64 crore in Champhai district, Mizoram, over two days of intensive operations. On September 9 and 10, four separate operations led to the seizure of Heroin No. 4, foreign-origin cigarettes, beer, and Areca Nuts. Two individuals were apprehended in connection with these seizures.

The first operation, conducted in Melbuk, Zokhawthar, resulted in the recovery of two plastic packets containing 22 grams of Heroin No. 4, valued at Rs 15.4 lakh. One person was arrested during this operation.The second operation, in Zotlang village, Champhai, uncovered 100 bags of Areca Nuts worth Rs 56 lakh. On the same day, a third operation in Melbuk led to the seizure of five cases of foreign-origin cigarettes, 39 cases of foreign-origin beer, and six bags of illegal Areca Nuts, totaling Rs 9.82 lakh.

The fourth operation, held on September 10 in Hnahlan village, yielded 11 soap cases containing 119 grams of Heroin No. 4, valued at Rs 83.30 lakh. Another individual was arrested in this operation. These operations were executed by Assam Rifles teams in coordination with Zokhawthar police and the Custom Preventive Force, Champhai, based on specific intelligence. The seized items and arrested individuals were handed over to the respective authorities for further legal action.
