On Friday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma announced that the state secretariat would go fully digital from Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) and asked all employees to acquire computer skills.

Speaking at a function on the 72nd death anniversary of Assam’s first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi, which is celebrated as Lok Kalyan Diwas, Sarma said people can apply for any job online without physically visiting the secretariat.

According to Sarma, it was Bordoloi who continued to fight for Assam’s future even after independence.

“He was instrumental in bringing the administration of Naga Hills, Mizo Hills, Khasi-Jaintia Hills, Garo Hills and Miki Hills under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and granting ‘Plane Tribe’ status to several tribes. He has made an indelible mark in the minds of the people of Assam,” the chief minister said.

Earlier, Sarma paid homage to Bordoloi at his ‘graveyard’ in Navagraha.
