Aster CMI Hospital partners with Arunachal government for affordable liver transplant services

Aster CMI Hospital has entered into a collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to provide affordable liver transplantation services for patients with end-stage liver disease. This groundbreaking initiative aims to support patients, especially children suffering from congenital liver conditions such as biliary atresia, by offering life-saving treatment at a fraction of the typical cost.

Liver transplantation, with a 95% success rate when performed with a living donor, is often unaffordable due to the high cost of the procedure, typically ranging between ₹20-25 lakh. In response, Aster CMI Hospital, in collaboration with CSR initiatives and crowdfunding platforms, has developed India’s largest affordable pediatric liver transplant program, performing over 1,000 successful transplants to date, including challenging cases with infants under 5 kilograms.

The collaboration will allow Arunachal Pradesh patients to receive treatment at Aster CMI’s state-of-the-art Bangalore facilities, eliminating the financial burden on families and the state government. In Itanagar, this initiative is expected to significantly impact the healthcare landscape, offering a lifeline to families in need of advanced medical care, while also providing an accessible pathway to world-class treatment. Dr. Sonal Asthana, Lead Consultant at Aster CMI, emphasized, “This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to making liver transplantation affordable and accessible for everyone.”
