At the Global Expo in Dubai, Tripura demonstrates the effectiveness of organic farming and attracts a lot of attention from abroad

Tripura’s strides in organic agriculture received global recognition this week as the state presented its farming achievements at the Middle East Natural & Organic Products Expo (MENOPE) 2025 in Dubai. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath led the delegation at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where organic producers, traders, and investors from across the world gathered to explore emerging markets and sustainable farming models.

Showcasing a diverse range of organic produce, Tripura attracted considerable attention from international delegates, particularly for its GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, premium aromatic rice varieties such as Kalikhasa and Harinarayan, Bird’s Eye Chilli, Gandharaj Lemon, White Sesame, and Foxtail Millet. Buyers and food industry experts praised the state’s ability to maintain high quality while expanding its organic footprint. Minister Nath told attendees that Tripura has developed over 26,400 hectares of certified organic farmland, supported by a network of nearly 26,800 farmers. He said strong policy backing, farmer-centric programmes and coordinated institutional support have positioned the state as one of India’s leading examples of sustainable, chemical-free agriculture.

To support market expansion, the state has facilitated the formation of 53 organic farmers’ producer companies, enabling farmers to improve aggregation, processing, branding and direct export. Calling these initiatives a “driver of rural transformation,” the minister highlighted that global demand continues to rise for Tripura’s signature crops — including Queen Pineapple, which boasts a natural sweetness level of 16–20 Brix, and black rice known for its high antioxidant content. Delegates from Europe, the Middle East, Japan and Southeast Asia also expressed interest in Tripura’s organic ginger, turmeric and foxtail millet.
