Authorities on High Alert as Unstable Weather Brings Rain, Thunderstorms, and Hail to Mizoram

The Mizoram government has issued a statewide alert following recent hailstorms and heavy rainfall reported in several parts of the state. Authorities have asked all deputy commissioners to stay on high alert and prepare for any emergency situation in the coming days.The Department of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation has directed that all District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs) be activated immediately. The move is aimed at ensuring quick response and better coordination at the district level if the situation worsens.Officials said that weather conditions remain unstable and may continue for a few more days.

According to the meteorological department, light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds, is expected to affect the Northeast region between March 13 and March 19. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in some areas of Mizoram during this period.The advisory has asked district authorities to remain fully prepared. It has warned about possible problems such as waterlogging in low-lying areas, slippery roads and traffic disruption due to rain and hail.Local officials have also been told to monitor the situation closely and take quick action wherever needed. The focus is on reducing damage and ensuring safety of people, especially in vulnerable areas.

At the same time, the state government has instructed officials to provide immediate financial help to families affected by the recent hailstorms. Assessment of damage is being carried out in different districts.The administration said all steps are being taken to manage the situation and reduce the impact of the ongoing weather conditions.
