On Friday, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women and the non-profit organization Friends for Life organized a legal awareness program in Kamle district that included discussions on a wide range of legal issues, such as women’s rights, domestic violence laws, child custody, inheritance, and workplace harassment. In his speech, Deputy Commissioner I/C Mobia Tai emphasized the critical role that women play in forming society. He pledged the full support of the district administration and thanked the APSCW and the non-profit Friends for Life for arranging the program in the district.
Dr. Nabam Yeni, a clinical psychologist, gave a speech on the subject of “Mental Health and Suicide Prevention” during the event. While APSCW vice-chairperson Nabam Yahi Tad urged the women of Kamle district to step up and work toward economic independence, APSCW member Ngurang Nama provided information about the organization and the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society. She emphasized the APSCW’s role in securing women’s skill development and highlighted examples of sponsorships given to Tawang and Dirang women. Finally, she told the homeowners about Section 144 BNSS, which allows indigent women and abandoned wives to request maintenance through the commission.
