The Rs 8,213.72 crore project of Bairabi-Sairang railway in Mizoram is approaching completion, with more than 93% of the work completed. According to an Aizawl official, the 51.38-kilometer Broad Gauge track is planned to be finished by July 2025, connecting Bairabi, near Assam, to Sairang. This is on the outskirts of Aizawl, on the way to Lengpui Airport.
An official revealed that the railway will have four stations along its 51.38-kilometer course in Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang towns. The route will have 48 tunnels across difficult terrain. Furthermore, the railway line will have 55 major bridges and 87 smaller bridges. It is also worth noting that the railway project suffered a significant setback in August 2023 when one of the railway bridges now under construction collapsed, killing 24 migrant laborers from West Bengal.
