Bajaj Auto is aiming to become a leader in the electric two-wheeler market while maintaining profitability, according to Joint Managing Director Rakesh Sharma. The company plans to strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of two new Chetak products over the next six months and is also working on electric motorcycles.
Speaking after the company’s latest results, Sharma said Bajaj Auto is determined to achieve the number-one position in the electric scooter segment but will not compromise its financial performance to gain market share. He emphasised that sustainable growth and a healthy bottom line remain central to the company’s EV strategy.
Bajaj Auto has been steadily closing the gap with the current market leader in electric scooters, increasing competition in India’s fast-growing EV segment. However, Sharma noted that the company’s timeline for achieving the top position would depend on market dynamics and competition from other manufacturers.
Apart from its EV ambitions, Sharma also discussed the broader domestic motorcycle market outlook, Delhi’s proposed electric vehicle policy and the ongoing turnaround efforts at KTM.
The company’s focus on new product launches, technology development and profitable expansion reflects its strategy to build a stronger presence in India’s electric mobility sector. Bajaj Auto aims to balance aggressive growth with financial discipline as demand for electric vehicles continues to rise across the country.
