Bajaj Life Insurance, one of India’s leading private life insurers, and ICICI Lombard, India’s leading private general insurer, participated in the eighth State Level Insurance Committee (SLIC) meeting in Tripura, held in Agartala on 10th September 2026. Chaired by Dr. Parshant Kumar Goyal (IAS), Secretary (Finance), Government of Tripura, the meeting saw participation from senior officials of the State Government, IRDAI, insurers, banks and other stakeholders, who came together to take stock of progress and deliberate on the next set of priorities for the state. IRDAI has designated Bajaj Life Insurance and ICICI Lombard as the Lead Life Insurer and Lead General Insurer for Tripura. In this role, they coordinate with the Government of Tripura, IRDAI and all insurers in the state towards the vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’. At the meeting, they shared updates on initiatives undertaken since the previous SLIC meeting in June and outlined the roadmap for the coming quarter.
The State Insurance Plan operates through the SLIC at the state level and District Level Insurance Committees (DLICs) at the district level. Together, these forums enable Government departments, regulators, insurers and banks to monitor progress, address challenges on the ground and shape strategies that make insurance more accessible to citizens. Looking ahead, the committee’s focus areas include improving penetration across life, health and general insurance, identifying uninsured and underserved populations, facilitating last mile delivery, and promoting closer convergence with Government departments and social security schemes. These efforts aim to strengthen financial resilience among citizens and safeguard households against financial shocks arising from death, illness, disability, accidents, crop losses and property damage. Mr. Anil PM, Executive President – Legal and Chief Compliance Officer, Bajaj Life Insurance, said, “Strengthening insurance coverage requires sustained collaboration between the Government, IRDAI, insurers and other stakeholders. We believe that building awareness and improving financial literacy are important first steps towards fostering long-term financial resilience. As the Lead Life Insurer for Tripura, our focus is on taking financial education closer to communities, particularly underserved segments, by working with local institutions and grassroots organisations. Through these efforts, we aim to help more families understand their protection needs and make informed decisions about insurance.”
The Government of Tripura remains firmly committed to supporting the vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’. The State Insurance Plan provides an important platform for collaboration among Government departments, IRDAI, insurers, banks, and other stakeholders to enhance insurance awareness, improve financial resilience, and bridge protection gaps across the State. Through coordinated efforts and sustained outreach, we aim to ensure that the benefits of insurance and financial protection reach every eligible person, particularly vulnerable and underserved sections of society.
